Dear Resident
The Ashton Hurst neighbourhood team came across a young child riding a mini moto (similar to the one pictured below) type bike last week and his parents stated that they were unaware that it was illegal.
Now it has come to the time of year where we are all starting to think about Christmas presents for children. We would ask that you please reconsider buying these types of vehicles for your children.
It’s against the law in the UK to ride hoverboards, minibikes (or ‘mini motos’), motorised scooters such as GoPeds and e-scooters on both public roads and pavements. The same applies to ‘trail’ bikes, three-wheeled bikes and quads unless they are displaying valid number plates.
These kind of vehicles may only be used on private roads or land with the road or land-owner’s permission.
If these vehicles are seen being ridden illegally they can be seized by Police.
Where a trial rental scheme is running, it's legal to use a rental e-scooter on a public road or cycle lane, provided you have the correct licence and follow road traffic regulations. Follow our advice on using e-scooters.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask as we would rather answer these queries rather than seize a child’s Christmas/birthday present.
Regards
